Polygon and Fabric Accelerate ZKProof Adoption on AggLayer

Sentiment Status: Positive

Polygon Labs announced a collaboration with Fabric Cryptography to accelerate zero-knowledge proof adoption on Polygon’s AggLayer ecosystem by leveraging Fabric’s Verifiable Processing Units (VPUs).

Advancing ZK-Proof Technology with Fabric’s VPUs

Fabric Cryptography’s VPUs, custom-designed silicon chips, will be integrated into the AggLayer infrastructure to boost the efficiency of ZK-proof generation. ZK-proofs allow one party to prove the truth of a statement without revealing underlying data.

Furthermore, the Plonky2 and Plonky3 libraries, developed by Polygon Labs, are already known for their rapid proof generation capabilities, but with the addition of Fabric’s VPUs, these systems are expected to perform even faster.

Shortening Adoption Timelines

A key factor of this partnership is the reduced timeline for ZK-proof adoption. According to Mihailo Bjelic, co-founder of Polygon Labs, what would have typically taken 3-5 years can now be achieved within just 6-12 months.

“Fabric’s VPUs represent a game-changer in the world of cryptography. By integrating them into our AggLayer, we can fast-track the deployment of ZK-powered projects and significantly lower proving costs,” Bjelic explained.

ZK-Proofs in DeFi

ZK-proofs enable cross-chain transactions to be verified instantly, without compromising security or scalability. This means that blockchains can seamlessly interact, share liquidity, and work together without the risk of one chain’s failure affecting others.

Bjelic emphasized the significance of this technology for the DeFi space, stating, “ZK-proofs are essential for DeFi to reach its full potential. With faster and cheaper proof generation, we can provide a smoother experience for users while ensuring the security of every transaction”.

Custom Hardware in Cryptography

Unlike traditional hardware like CPUs or GPUs, VPUs are built specifically for cryptographic processing, offering greater flexibility, efficiency, and performance. According to Michael Gao, CEO of Fabric, the VPU’s architecture ensures that future advancements in proof systems can be supported without the need for hardware redesigns.

“The VPU’s cryptography-native architecture delivers unprecedented performance for today’s proof systems. It is designed to evolve with advancements in ZK-proof technology, ensuring that platforms like Polygon’s AggLayer can stay ahead of the curve”, Gao stated.

Future Prospects

Fabric Cryptography prepares for mass production of its VPUs with a $33 million Series A funding round secured, co-led by Blockchain Capital and 1kx, Fabric is well-positioned to revolutionize cryptographic processing in the blockchain industry.

Polygon Labs is also making a $5 million investment in VPU-based server systems to support the accelerated development of ZK-powered projects on its AggLayer, including Polygon zkEVM, Polygon Miden, and Polygon CDK.
